3 Easy Steps To Restore Your Teak Garden Furniture To Its Former Glory
When the weather is warm and sunny, the chances are that you probably love to spend a good few hours in the garden.
Whether you're hosting a barbecue, getting lost in a good book or simply sitting back and soaking up some rays, it's great to enjoy the outdoors while you can. And if you've invested in a quality garden furniture set, you can rest safe in the knowledge that you'll have little maintenance to do.
Teak garden sets in particular are extremely easy to care for. But what happens if it does require a helping hand to return it to its former glory?
The Teak Renovation System (left) can help to restore teak garden furniture back to its original state.
How to restore teak garden furniture
Although it is a tough and durable wood that lasts an age, teak may take on a silver grey colour over time, compared with the honey brown colour that it boasts when you first buy it. This does not in any way mean that the wood is weaker or less reliable, it is simply a process that occurs over time and is a natural part of teak weathering.
For many people, this effect is one that they appreciate and enjoy, and because the teak is still in perfect working order, they choose to leave it as is. However, others may prefer the original glow of the wood, and so therefore may wish to revive it once the greying occurs.
Fortunately, there are some simple steps that can be taken to achieve this. There are also products available to make the process even easier. Here's how to restore teak garden furniture to its former glory...
Step 1 – Sanding
It's always important to try to keep your furniture in good condition, and that includes avoiding spillages where possible. Of course, accidents do happen, so it's quite possible that your furniture will witness food and drink dropped on it from time to time.
If stains occur, gently sanding the teak can help to remove these and prevent the wood from looking unsightly or patchy. Sanding can also help to remove any roughness that has been caused by the natural weathering process.
Once you have removed any stains and smoothed the furniture to your liking, you can move on to step two.
Step 2 – Cleaning
If the wood is faded or greying, the first step to revitalising it is to clean it. A Teak Renovation System can be purchased which will enhance the restoration process. This is a two part treatment that consists of a chemical cleaner and a renovator. In the cleaning stage, you will need to use part one of the renovation system; the (aptly named) teak cleaner.
Once applied with a sponge or brush, the chemicals in the cleaner begin to lift out any embedded dirt and debris that has collected in the wood over time. This can then be simply rinsed off with water, leaving the furniture clean and pristine. Once it's all cleaned up and gleaming once again, proceed to step three to complete the furniture's rejuvenation.
Step 3 – Renovation
The final stage of the process is to apply part two of the renovation system; the teak renovator. This chemical formula is designed to revert the teak back to its original golden colouring. Simply apply the teak renovator, and once dry it will leave your garden furniture looking exactly as it did on the day you bought it.
It really couldn't be any simpler. If your garden furniture set has gone grey or discoloured over time, simply follow these steps to return it to its former glory.
